John Frederick Hulin, 86, of Southbury, died Monday, February 19 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. Mr. Hulin was born May 13, 1920 in Detroit Michigan, son of the late Charles and Mary (Campbell) Hulin. He attended the University of Missouri until the outbreak of WW II, when he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marines where he served as an engineer in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. At the conclusion of the war, he lived in Shanghai, employed by Westinghouse as an engineer. After the Communist take-over, he returned to New York to work as sales manager for the Pratt & Austin Co., paper converters. In 1959, the family moved to Weston, CT, home for 30 years. There he was chairman of the Land Acquisition Committee and the Conservation Commission, as well as a Little League Manager and Boy Scout Leader. A Heritage Village resident since 1988, Mr. Hulin was an EMT, as well as a vice-president with the Heritage Village Ambulance Corps, Condo 4 president and a driver for the mini-bus. He took the Heritage Village Tennis Clinic and was completely won over to the game, one of his greatest pleasures. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; a son, Charles C. Hulin of Sturbridge, MA; a daughter, Elissa Peterson of Minneapolis, MN; 3 granddaughters, Katherine Stonebraker, Rachel Hulin, Emma Peterson; and 2 great grandchildren.
