John F. Hubbard, 69, Washington, died peacefully at Village Crest Center for Health and Rehabilitation on August 8, 2013. He was the loving husband of Kathleen (O'Neill). Mr. Hubbard was born in Torrington, May 1, 1944, son the late W. Prescott and Kathryn (Brown) Hubbard. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era and was a 1971 graduate of Pace University. A longtime resident of Washington, he was an active member of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, the Washington Lions Club and several town committees. He was an avid gardener, and found much joy and happiness in tending to his flower beds and vegetables. Besides his wife of 45 years, he also leaves behind two sons, Brett Hubbard and his wife Jenny (O'Connell) of Methuen, MA and Ryan Hubbard and his wife Christine (Rosher) of Dedham, MA, and two daughters, Amanda Gilligan and her husband Robert of Waterbury, CT and Mary Beth Holknekt and her husband Marcus of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, he leaves behind five grandchildren: Samantha, Dylan, Tucker, Stella, and Jonathan. He also leaves behind 2 brothers, Ethan Hubbard of Chelsea, VT and George Hubbard and his wife Laura of Tamworth, NH, and two sisters, Cynthia Bluh and her husband George of Conway, MA and Natalie Dyer, wife of the late Elisha Dyer, of Washington Depot, CT. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the New Milford V.N.A. and the staff of the Village Crest Center for Health and Rehabilitation for the excellent care given to John and for their kindness, compassion, and support during this difficult time.
