Torrington – John H. Flanagan, "Flan", 87 of Torrington CT passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
Flan was born December 11, 1937, in Bridgeport, CT to his loving parents; Herbert and Mary (Lapke) Flanagan. He is predeceased by his parents and his sisters Mary Lou Flanagan and Sr. Joan Flanagan.
He attended Fairfield University. Flan married his wife Colette (Glackin) in Philadelphia on September 30, 1961. Shortly after they moved to Bridgeport where they began their journey of parenthood. Flan began his career at Bridgeport Brass as a salesman. After years of sales experience and eight children later Flan and Colette moved their family to Bethlehem, CT where he continued his career in sales in the metal industry. Two more Children and lots of experiences with "farm life" Flan enjoyed the life that Bethlehem had to offer. He retired in 2005, and he and Colette moved to Torrington, CT where he enjoyed golfing with friends. Flan was a jokester at large and was always telling entertaining stories. He was kind, loving and especially funny. He was a huge sports fan and was knowledgeable on any sport you could think of. He will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Flan leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 63 years Colette aka his "Kumquat" and 10 children Tim (Shaun deceased) Flanagan, Kathy Flanagan, Colette Flanagan, MaryClare (Richie)Murphy, Joseph (Colleen)Flanagan, Maureen (David) Chattergy, Edward (Andie) Flanagan, Patrick Flanagan, Ellen (Jesse) Cecchini, Maggie (Jason) Stokes.
He also leaves behind his 20 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 41 nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday, January 25,2025 from 10:00 am until a closing prayer begins at 12:00pm in Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home 2 School Street, Woodbury. To leave an online condolence, please visit munsonloveterefuneralhome.com
