NEWTOWN- Johanna W. Metzker, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 27, 2023, at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Johanna was born July 24, 1939, in Danbury CT, the daughter of the late Walter J. Sr. and Ada (Tulipani)Walker. Jo as she was known to many friends and family grew up in Ridgefield CT. After graduation she attended secretarial school and worked as a secretary at Perkin Elmer. Once she started her family, she became a homemaker, then worked at Ridgefield Public School as a food service manager and during the summer worked for the Board of Education. Johanna also worked and cared for town residents Ms. Miller and Ms. Brenner for many years. Johanna then started working for the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame in Ridgefield. She loved the Sisters and taking care of them. She then earned her CNA degree which she was very proud of and continued caring for others with the Ridgefield VNA.
Upon retirement Johanna moved to Southbury CT where she had many friends and enjoyed every moment socializing, playing Bocci, and other games. She loved to be creative and practiced Chinese brush painting. Johanna attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic church and was a very faithful person. She moved to Newtown in early 2020. Johanna had a wonderful sense of humor, loved her family and friends, animals and most of all loved spending time with her greatest joy her grandchildren.
She will be missed by all especially her daughter Karin Mele (Ron) of North Haven; son Stephen Metzker (Katie) of Newtown; brother Walter J. Walker Jr. (Carol) of Waterbury; grandchildren Anna, Emily and Erich of Newtown and Michael of North Haven. Johanna was predeceased by her son Paul M. Metzker Jr.
Memorial visitation hours will be from 5pm-7pm Friday January 5th at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 10am Saturday January 6th, 910 Main St S, Southbury. Interment is private and at the convenience of the family.
