IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan A.
Phillips
September 1, 1941 – October 3, 2025
Southbury- Joan A. Phillips, of Southbury, beloved mother and extraordinary achiever passed in the wings of angels, peacefully with her loving family nearby. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband Frank Phillips, her children Frank and Brian and granddaughter Christina, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert of Lindenhurst, New York and Steven of Bethlehem, Connecticut.
Upon her graduation from high school, she raised her family and was active in Southbury School System, filling in as a tutor for learning disabled students. She is still recognized by many of her past students whom she helped. Later in life, she worked as a real estate agent for the David Nyman group; a career she enjoyed greatly.
Joan was down to earth, she enjoyed her home and all the nature that surrounded it. From planting new flower beds, feeding the birds that would visit, and to harvesting the bounties of her vegetable garden. Along with her love of her surroundings, she was the inspiration of the Christmas Tree Farm she and her husband created together. The outdoors was truly her passion.
Joan and her family spent many years travelling all over the United States; from Maine to Florida to the heart lands of Missouri and Arkansas, West to California and the canyon country. Travelling in the family's motor home was always an adventure.
Joan kept her life simple and well grounded. She never complained or raised her voice. If she was having a "bad day," a cup of coffee with a friend was her antidote. She loved being with her friends especially taking trips to the Casino regularly.
She was a strong-willed woman who refused to get stuck in life just because she had Parkinson's. Each day, she would adapt so she could continue to enjoy life with "baby steps" and "one foot in front of the other."
Her family is assured a special spot is reserved for her with the angels.
A celebration of life for close friends and family will take place Sunday, November 2, 2025 at the Phillip's residence in Southbury.
In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory to the Southbury Land Trust.
