Obituary

In loving memory of Joan E. McCurry

Born in New Haven, CT 1940; died at home on her beloved Alpaca Farm July 14, 2011 after a long challenging illness. She is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Kay McCurry as well as many close friends and relatives. She is survived by her brother Arnold, sister Mary, nieces Michelle and Patrice and nephew Christopher McCurry and her dearest friend and partner Ruthann Norris along with two beloved cats Kaboose and Choo Choo and innumerable friends.
She spent her early adult years working in advertising and sales for which she was naturally adept. Eventually she took a job as a Letter Carrier for USPS being the first women carrier in Fairfield. Later she moved to Woodbury establishing the first Alpaca Farm in CT and quickly won a nationwide reputation for quality service to both the animals and her breeder/clients. Despite years of medical challenges she maintained her passion for her Alpacas, retaining her supervisory role over those she mentored in the business.
Her personal life was characterized by a strong charisma that generated many loving friends. She loved to laugh and despite incredible suffering could greet each day and person with a broad smile and unceasing humor. At a particularly difficult time in her illness she was heard to say to an ICU nurse "I love to love and I love to be loved" Her remarkable ability to give love and engender the same is her greatest legacy to those who survive her. May she rest in God's merciful Love.
