Joan Marie Ermish died on April 1, 2026. Joan was born in 1931 in Queens, New York, daughter of Elizabeth (Uster) and Gustave Ermish.

She graduated from the Dominican Commercial High School in 1949 and went to work for The National Supply Service of the Boy Scouts of America in Manhattan. In 1955 this organization moved to New Jersey and she began her career with General Electric at various locations on Long Island.

Joan retired after 36 years and in 1994, moved to Southbury, Connecticut. An avid reader from the first grade, she became a volunteer at the Southbury Public Library. For over twenty-five years, and was a member of the Board of the Friends of the Library for at least twenty years.

Joan loved music, especially piano music. She also participated on a bowling team when she was younger. After retirement, she enthusiastically watched golf tournaments on TV and cheered on her favorite players.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Everett, Richard, and Warren Ermish, her twin sisters Gae Wood and Elizabeth Riley, as well as her nephews, Owen Riley and Richard Ermish, and her niece Marilyn Chase.

She is survived by her niece Liz Ermish-Schmidt (John) of Southbury, and Margaret Ermish of Queens, New York as well as nineteen other nieces and nephews, plus numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by family, neighbors and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, 10:30 A.M. held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located 910 Main St. S. Southbury, Connecticut. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be private.
