Obituary


Mrs. Joan M. Gardella, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 19, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. She was the widow of Andrew "Bud" Gardella.
Joan was born February 7, 1917 in Roxbury, daughter of the late Wilbur and Dr. Mary (Mitchell) MacIntyre. She was a lifelong resident of Roxbury and attended local schools. Joan went on to graduate from the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1940.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Roxbury, served as Trustee for many years and was a member of the Women's Guild. She was also a member of The Shepaug Club, a volunteer at the New Milford ThriftMart and was a lifelong member of the Clan MacIntyre Association. She served the town of Roxbury as Democratic registrar of voters and volunteered her time for other local community activities. Joan was honored at Roxbury's 9th annual volunteer recognition day .
She is survived by a daughter, Andrea DeWitt and her husband David of Roxbury, Three sons, Cameron Gardella and his wife Barbara "Bonnie" of Woodbury, Duane Gardella of San Diego, CA and Owen Gardella and his wife Shar of Pierre, SD, a sister-in-law Millie MacIntyre of Danbury, 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Joan's memory to the Minor Memorial Library, 23 South St., Roxbury 06783.

Cemetery: St. Patrick's

Location: Munson-Lovetere Woodbury

Funeral: St. Patrick's Church, Roxbury

Services: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday April 25, 2011 at 10am at St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Visitation: There are no calling hours.
