Mullen
April 13, 1950 – July 18, 2006
Jerome Mullen, 56, of Oakwood Drive, known to family and friends as
Jerry, died Tuesday, July 18, at his home. He was the beloved husband
of Nora (Parker) Mullen and loving father to his daughter, Jennifer L.
Mullen of Washington, D.C. and son, Brian P. Mullen of Wakefield, R.I.
Mr. Mullen was born April 13, 1950, in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late
Edward J. and Eileen Marie (MacFadden) Mullen. He graduated from Fitch
High School in Austintown, Ohio. He worked for Public Steel in Ohio and
then the Youngstown Vindicator newspaper before joining the
Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. He and his wife, both graduates of Youngstown
State University, married in 1974. He continued with graduate courses in
history and throughout his life his passion for politics and reading
historical literature continued. In 1978, Jerry was promoted to rail
management; he and his family moved to Sewell, NJ and later to Oxford,
CT (1985). He worked as district superintendent for the NYC-New Haven
District of Conrail and then CSX Railroad, retiring in 2004 after 33
years of service with the railroad. His hobbies included golf, baseball
and photography. He was a life-long Cleveland Indians fan and he enjoyed
coaching Oxford public sports, including soccer, basketball and baseball
for his son's teams. His daughter graduated from Dartmouth College and
Georgetown University Law Center; she is now practicing as an attorney
in Washington D.C. His son, a graduate of the University of Rhode
Island, is Product Manager for the 3D Group for Interactive Visualization.
Besides his wife of 31 years and children, he leaves: two brothers,
Edward J. Mullen of Harker Heights, Texas and Daniel J. Mullen of San
Diego, Calif.; a sister, Rosemary Morris of Sussex, England; his
mother-in-law, Janet Parker of Austintown, OH; a brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Roland and Linda Parker of Maryland and several nieces
and nephews.
Arrangements: Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle
Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. Burial to follow at Southford Cemetery.
Calling hours 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Southbury Funeral Home
of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Adult Patient Recreation Fund in memory of Jerome Jerry Mullen C/O Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087. The
recreation center provided a safe haven for Nora and Jerry during his
illness.

Visitation: Calling hours Thursday from 7: 30 to 9: 30 p.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere 235 Main St. North.
