Obituary

Woodbury-

On December 20, 2024, Jean L. Wargo (Mugsy) passed away peacefully in her sleep at home. She was 84 years old.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Leona Wasdo. Jean was born and raised in Naugatuck. After graduating from Naugatuck High School, she married in 1958 and moved to Woodbury in 1964, where she raised her seven children.

Early on, Jean bravely stepped into the role of mother and father and will be dearly missed. Jean's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her home was always open, serving as a gathering place for family and friends. Every surface of her home was covered with pictures of her family, reflecting her devotion to her loved ones. Jean had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important date in her children's and grandchildren's lives, never failing to send a card or make a call.

She worked as a caregiver while raising her family, often working 90 hours a week.  She continued caring for the elderly until her own health issues prevented her from working.

Jean was a member of Hillside Covenant Church where she loved attending Sunday services and monthly bean suppers.

Jean had a strong will, amazing strength and resilience, fierce determination and a generous heart. She is now on a journey to shores that we cannot see. While our hearts mourn our loss, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and is no longer suffering in pain.

Jean is survived by six of her children, who made up the entirety of her world; Cindy Wargo, Gail Golden (Allen Fichtel), George Wargo, Jean Wargo, Joan Wargo and James Wargo; grandchildren Ryan Golden, Jaime Golden, Emily Wargo, Mary (Pidgey) Wargo; and great grandchild Ella Gauthier.  She is also survived by her devoted longtime friend Marna Nolan who checked on her weekly, several in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Cheryl Wargo Salokas, her sisters Patricia Way and Regina Davino and her brother Robert Wasdo.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, Karla, Jessica, and Corrine who made it possible for her to stay at home in her final years.  We would also like to thank Yvonne Gamelin and the staff at All About You Home Care Services for their amazing care of our mother throughout the years.

A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on January 4, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Hillside Covenant Church with a lunch to follow. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hillside Covenant Church, 100 Hillside Avenue, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
