Obituary

Jean Zwick Fuller, 95, of Woodbury, CT passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025 in Tallahassee, FL.  She is survived by her two daughters, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Born on December 23, 1929 in Connecticut, Jean was daughter to Mary and John Zwick.  She spent her childhood growing up in Middlebury, with her brother, John Jr, and her sister, Mary (Pearson).  A graduate of Simmons College in 1951, Jean pursued a career in Library Services.  Beginning her career in 1951 with the Hartford Public Library, Jean then worked as a librarian for the Woodbury Children's Library (1959 to 1966), the Woodbury Public School Library (1962 to 1967), and held the role of Woodbury Public Library Director (1966 to 1969).  Her passion for the library carried over to all members of her household, even the dog.  For years, the family poodle, Tartuffe would sneak out of the house to sit under the library desk in the Woodbury Children's Library while Jean worked.  In 1974 Jean returned to school at Southern Connecticut State University where she attended classes to become a Medical Librarian.  Jean co-authored the publication, "Connecticut Association of Health Sciences Libraries Standards and Checklist for Health Science Libraries" in 1975.  Following her graduation from SCSU, she worked as a librarian at St. Mary's Hospital (1970 and on) in Waterbury, eventually becoming the Director of St. Mary's Hospital Library Services.  She also served on several boards of the Connecticut Library Services throughout her career.

Shortly after graduating from Simmons College in Boston Jean met her husband Harold Fuller, at a party with friends.  They married in 1953 and initially resided in Southford, CT.  The Fullers decided to start their family in Woodbury, moving to three different houses on Mountain Road over the years.  To the joy of Tartuffe, his path to work with Jean at the Woodbury Library remained constant.

Jean and Harold raised their two daughters, Anne (Elsenboss) and Julia (Magee) in Woodbury.  Anne married Woodbury resident Paul Elsenboss III (daughters Tracy, Amanda, and Megan) and Julia married Chicago resident Rob Magee (son Kyle and daughter Lindsay).  Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and would frequently support the team sports of her grandchildren.  In the later part of Jean's life, she also was graced with three great grandchildren (Garrett, Claire, and Nora).

Beyond reading, Jean carried a passion for traveling.  Both her and Harold traveled with friends throughout the world, enjoying nature and adventures of foreign lands.  And state-side, Jean spent one summer in a van traveling across the United States visiting National Parks with her children and grandchildren.  As for calmer hobbies, Jean enjoyed swimming, sailing, and visiting the theater.  She introduced her grandchildren to several Broadway performances and enjoyed supporting local theater and music.

In 2013, Jean left Connecticut and moved to Tallahassee, FL.  Still enjoying her love of reading, she volunteered at her new residential facility's library.  Jean could frequently be found immersed in the pages of the library's newest books which she helped procure.

Friends and family are invited to the graveyard service being held at Woodbury's New North Cemetery on September 20th at 11am.  She will be laid to rest beside Harold, her late husband.
