Southbury- Janet Lyn Walker, CPA, passed away at the age of 62 on July 23, 2024, at Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut, surrounded by her loving family after a long fight against cancer. Janet was a devoted mother, nana, companion, friend to all, accomplished Certified Public Accountant, and a prominent figure in her community.
Janet was born on January 26, 1962, in Evansville, Indiana, to her late beloved parents, Charles and Dorothy (Stallion) Finnegan. She was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Ashley and Stephanie, and cherished her first granddaughter, Harper. She was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her second granddaughter. For many years, Janet found happiness and companionship in Steve Bate; together, they shared a love for travel and enjoyed experiencing life together.
An accomplished and successful businesswoman, Janet followed her passion for finance earning her CPA and rising to the esteemed position of Partner at Diversified Financial Solutions in Southbury. She found immense pride and fulfillment in her work, serving her loyal clients with dedication and care. Janet also gave back to causes close to her heart by sitting on various boards in the community. In her leisure time, she enjoyed golfing, going to concerts, and attending book club with her friends, as well as being a member of Sacred Heart Congregation of Southbury.
Janet is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Stephanie and Charles Hough of Boston, Massachusetts, Ashley and Michael Leonetti of Newtown, Connecticut, granddaughter Harper Leonetti, former husband Charles Walker, and companion Steve Bate. To honor her memory and extraordinary life, family and friends may visit with Janet's family from 3:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Southbury location of Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N. Family and friends are also invited to attend funeral mass on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury, CT 06488. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Closer to Free Fund for Smilow Cancer Hospital, givetoynhh.org , as a tribute to Janet's spirit of generosity and kindness.
Janet's vibrant spirit, unparalleled work ethic, and unwavering love for her family and community will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. May she rest in eternal peace.
