Miss Janet Alice Smith of Southbury died Sunday May 2, 2010 at The Watermark at East Hill. Miss Smith was born in Brooklyn, NY daughter of Bessie Kirkland Schmidt and James Schuyler Schmidt. She lived in the Tenafly-Englewood, NJ area prior to moving to Heritage Village in 1992 upon her retirement from Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. She attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and Columbia University. She was the President of the Junior Women's Club and officer of the Women's Club of Tenafly, Assistant Producer of the Tenafly Drama Workshop and on the boards of the Community Chest and American Red Cross. Since moving to Heritage Village, she was President of the New Villagers Club and appeared in the 1993 and 1995 Follies.
She leaves a brother, George S. Smith of Vero Beach, Fl, a nephew, Roy Wm. Smith of Bethel and a niece Cynthia S. Stuart of Shoreham, NY, two grand-nieces and three grand-nephews.
Interment will follow in the Church's Memorial Wall. The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, is in charge of arrangements.
