IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane
Flahive
July 24, 1917 – January 27, 2015
Jane (Eichengreen) Flahive, 97 passed into the loving, comforting arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 27. Known simply as Mema to her friends and family, Jane leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, kindness and faith.
Jane was born in 1917 in Wayne, PA to Helen and Leon Eichengreen. Her father, an executive with the Philadelphia Electric Company, helped bring electricity to the western United States. Jane grew up in a loving household with her two sisters, Margie and Anne, both deceased.
After her childhood in Wayne, Jane attended the University of Pennsylvania where she earned a teaching degree. Following her graduation, she taught kindergarten until she met and married her one and only, Patrick Flahive of Westfield, MA.
Together Pat and Jane lived in Westfield where they raised three children, a son, Terry Flahive of Bedford, NH, and two daughters, Anne Burke of Southbury, CT and Beau Flahive Haas of Northampton, MA. They were married for 54 years. When Pat died in 1996, Jane moved to Southbury, CT, making her home in Heritage Village for 15 years before moving to Pomperaug Woods.
Mema had a zest for life. She loved people and made friends wherever she went. She cherished and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, her 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her heart was always filled with song and spirit. She was a fixture in her Church; a source of comfort, strength and prayer for those around her. Her love for flowers, birds, animals, and sports - particularly the Red Sox and the UConn girls' basketball team - was outmatched only by her deep and abiding faith and her love and commitment to her family.
