IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane
Berardino
July 4, 1935 – January 15, 2022
Jane Berardino, formerly of Garden City, NY and Sarasota, FL died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Southbury, CT on January 15, 2022 surrounded by her family. Jane was 86 years young and her death from cardiac arrest was a shock to all who knew her.
Jane was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was warm, kind and giving with a strong sense of humor, a caregiver, a great hostess and a gourmet cook with a green thumb and an eye for fashion and interior design.
Jane was the youngest of three children born in Burlington, Vermont to Felix and Leona (LeBlanc) Viau. She attended Ecole Nazareth and Cathedral High School in Burlington. After her graduation in 1953, she accepted a position with Vermont Life, where she worked for several years.
Jane married US Marine Corp. Lt. Ronald Berardino (Belle Harbor, NY) in 1958 and they lived in California and North Carolina prior to settling in Garden City, NY in the early 1960s where they resided for over 50 years.
Jane and Ron raised three children and one dog. She was an active member of her church (St. Anne's) including a term as president of the Ladies Guild. They were both avid golfers and enjoyed many years together with their friends playing golf at Cherry Valley Country Club and various other golf courses as they travelled extensively. Jane was a league bowler at Herricks Lanes where she had at least one "200" game and she enjoyed playing bridge.
Jane stayed current and relevant in the age of change. She loved to read, especially the daily periodicals, magazines and her favorite mystery novels. She always figured out whodunit. Jane was a formidable foe at scrabble, played the jumbles and on line word games with friends and family. She was a great correspondent and always remembered a birthday, wedding or other occasion with thoughtful cards and gifts. Jane and Ron established the Berardino and Viau Family Scholarship at St. Michael's
College (Ron's alma mata) in Colchester, VT.
Jane is survived by Ron, her loving husband of 64 years, her children Marie and Joseph Scinto of Southbury, CT and their children Julia, Michael and his wife Victoria; Gail and Jonathan Lang of Jaffrey, NH; Diane Baker of Westford, MA and her children Mary Jane and Matthew; and sixteen nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the St. Michael's scholarship fund (www.smcvt.edu) or to the Acts 4 Ministry, Waterbury, CT (http://acts4.org).
Proverbs 31: 28-29 "Her children arise and call her blessed her husband also and he praises her. Many women do noble things but you surpassed them all."
