Obituary

Newtown – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jan Coppola, 69, who departed peacefully at her home on January 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Anthony Coppola; her cherished son, Brian Coppola; her loving daughter, Hayley Coppola, and her fiancé, Kyle Noury; her sister, Carmella Terek; her aunt, Rose Napolitano; brother-in-law, David Martin; her grandson, Anthony Coppola, and his mother, Anita Coppola. Jan was predeceased by her parents, John and Adeline Berzinskis; sister, Carey Martin; and brother, Michael Berzinskis. Jan was a remarkable woman, whose warmth and dedication touched the lives of all who knew her. A talented hairdresser for much of her life, she also served as the office manager for Dr. Thomas Abrahamsen in Westport and recently for Dr. Cynthia Cornelius in Brookfield. Jan's journey began in Fairfield, where she grew up, and she later made her home in Danbury, Brookfield, and finally, Newtown. Known for her affectionate nature, Jan had a special adoration for her miniature dachshunds, which was reflected in the countless dachshund knick-knacks adorning her home. Her greatest joy, however, was always her family. She was a steadfast supporter of her children, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, planning memorable family vacations, and hosting the holidays for her family, despite the time and effort it took to prepare. Jan's heart was large, and she continually sought out ways to give back, proudly supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital every month. Her dream of retiring in Florida was cut short by a courageous battle with cancer. Over the past 13 months, despite enduring significant health challenges and pain, Jan's determination shone brightly. Even while confined to her bed, she inspired those around her by pushing herself to regain her strength, achieving the remarkable feat of walking 100 feet during rehabilitation. Throughout her struggles, she remained resilient, often seeking the simplest joys—daily outings for doctor appointments or shopping trips when her pain allowed.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10am at St. Emery Church, 838 Kings Highway E, Fairfield, CT 06825.
