James Pettit, 71 died at Waterbury Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Catherine (Vensel) Pettit for 36 years. Born July 11, 1951 in Jamaica, Queens, NY to the late Francis and Jeanne (Congdon) Pettit. As a young boy his family moved to Winsted, CT where his uncle and father founded the business Engineered Wire & Cable.
He graduated from St. Anthony School and The Gilbert School class of 1969. He attended the University of Connecticut where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Computer Science and Engineering.
He worked as an electrical engineer for Emerson, formerly Bristol Babcock, in Watertown, CT as the Director of Remote Automation. During his long and distinguished career he designed gas and water pipeline control systems.
Jim was an avid traveler having visited places all over the world either for business or pleasure. His favorite places to visit were Italy, London, Disney World, and Newport, RI. Jim was both a music and movie aficionado. He attended many rock concerts in the late 60's and early 70's, among them Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, Cream, and Grand Funk Railroad. In later years, he became a jazz fan. He amassed a sizable music and movie collection that he enjoyed playing on his home theatre.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Jennifer (Pettit) Tassi and her husband Pete and daughter Briana of Lewis Center, OH. Kara (Pettit) Maguire and her husband Daniel and their two sons Cade and Bowen of Glastonbury, CT. Michael Pettit and his significant other Kaeli Kutch of Aurora, CO. Sister Jeanne (Pettit) Fox and her husband Justin and their children Stephanie, Colin, and Matthew of Windsor, CT. Ann (Pettit) Boucher and her husband Peter and their sons Peter and John of Vancouver, WA. Sister in Law Ellen (Fancher) Pettit of Winsted and her children Jason and Beth. He was predeceased by brother Francis Pettit Jr. of Winsted, CT.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Bethlehem Ambulance Association.
Visitation will be Saturday November 12, 2022, with a service beginning at 11 A.M. at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St. Woodbury, CT. Burial will be immediately following at New North Cemetery, Woodbury, CT.
