Obituary

James Andrew Moore, 75, of Newtown, Connecticut died March 28.

Jim was born on August 2, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to the late John and Helen Moore. He graduated from Butler High School, Butler, NJ in 1954; received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rutgers University in 1958; and served in the Army as a First Lieutenant where, while stationed in California, he met and married Leora Ann Carpenter, his wife of 49 years.

Jim's dedicated career spanned 31 years at Union Carbide Corporation where at time of his retirement in 1992 he served as the Director of Corporate Communications.

Jim spent his childhood years around the Cupsaw Lake community in Ringwood, New Jersey, and later returned to raise his family there before relocating to Newtown in 1979. In Ringwood, he was active in the Cupsaw Lake Athletic Association and served as President of the Jaycees. In Newtown, Jim dedicated his time and leadership to youth soccer and helped originate the Newtown Memorial Day Kickoff Soccer Tournament. A faithful parishioner of Trinity Church, Jim served on the church vestry and as head usher.

Jim was a family man who enjoyed sharing the comforts of his home with family and friends. He loved reading, enjoyed performances of music and theatre, and believed in the power of thoughtful debate and discussion. Each day was an opportunity to explore, learn and share. Throughout his life Jim's faith sustained him, and he believed in the promise of heavenly peace above all understanding.

Besides his wife Ann, Jim is survived by his brothers Bob Moore of Warwick, New York, and John Moore of Ringwood, NJ; his four children: Shannon Wiggers of Old Tappan, NJ; Patrick Moore of Upton, MA; Scott Moore of Belmont, MA, Darrin Moore of Louisville, CO; and five grandchildren. Jim is predeceased by his sister Helen Nystrom of Marietta, GA.
