With deep sorrow we announce the passing of James R. Meehan, who departed this life peacefully on February 19, 2025, at Danbury Hospital. Born on August 22, 1943, in Stamford, Connecticut, James lived fully and generously, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. He was a resident of Woodbury since 1990, following a life well-lived in his hometown of Stamford. James was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Ruth B. Meehan, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, having tied the knot on April 30, 1966. A proud son of Madeline and James Meehan, James graduated from Stamford Catholic High School and furthered his education at Norwalk Community College. His sense of duty led him to serve in the United States Air Force, where he learned the value of discipline and service to others. In his professional life, James thrived in the car business as a general manager and subsequently built a successful career in sales with companies such as United Health Care and GenWorth Financial. Beyond his professional achievements, James was known for his commitment to community service, dedicating his time to Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Connecticut. An avid reader and passionate hobbyist, James found joy in woodworking, automobiles, airplanes, puzzles, and travel. James is survived by his son, James R. Meehan "J.R.", and daughter-in-law, Mary-Anne Sullivan OF Southbury, Connecticut. He cherished his grandchildren, Timothy Sullivan and Liesl Ohngemach, and his great-granddaughter, Juliet Sullivan of Pensacola, Florida, also Eli Kelly of Waterbury, Connecticut, and Claire Sullivan from Concord, New Hampshire. James leaves behind a treasured extended family, Theresa and Alfred DeCarlo, including nieces and nephews, Michael Brzostek, Donna Archer, Charles Linck, Michele Kovatch and Barbara Durfee. He was predeceased by his sister, Madeline Patricia Linck, and brothers-in-law Chester F. Brzostek and Charles Linck, as well as his sister-in-law, Barbara Brzostek. In honor of James's extraordinary journey, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Tunnel to Towers, organizations he supported passionately. Family and friends are invited to celebrate James's life at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St. Woodbury, Connecticut, where a wake will be held on March 3, 2025, from 5 PM to 8 PM. A funeral mass will follow on March 4, 2025, at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Connecticut, at 10:30 AM, with military honors to be rendered thereafter.
