James P. Docherty passed into eternal rest on December 21, 2025. Born in New York, New York, he was the son of James and Marie Docherty. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, his only daughter, Casey, beloved dog, Birdie, of Southbury, Connecticut, as well as his dear brother, Scott, of Astoria, Oregon.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Jim later moved with his family to Los Angeles, California, where he attended Notre Dame High School. He went on to graduate proudly as a Trojan from the University of Southern California, earning a degree in political science and becoming a brother of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

Jim began his professional life as an advertising executive, a career that ultimately led him to serve as president of a magazine publishing company in Manhattan, New York. In retirement, he embarked on a new venture with his family, founding a successful trophy company that thrived for more than twenty years. He often remarked that it was “the only business that makes everyone happy.”

Beyond his professional pursuits, Jim was deeply engaged in his community, volunteering his time on several town committees. An avid sportsman and club member, he wholeheartedly embraced the activities he loved.

Above all else, Jim was a devoted family man. His love, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to his family knew no bounds. Guided by his faith in God, he strove to be the best husband, father, and friend he could be, and he will be remembered most for the warmth, integrity, humor, and kindness he shared with those he loved.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 on Saturday January 10, 2026 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Rd., Newtown, CT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
