Southbury -
Mr. Jacob "J" Townsend, 78, of Southbury died Saturday April 21, 2007 at River Glen Health Care Center. He was the husband of Anne (Hunter) Townsend.
Mr. Townsend was born July 17, 1928 in Bristol, PA son of the late Jacob M. and Helen (Rufe) Townsend. He was a Lieutenant in the Naval Reserves and graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. with a B.A. in Business in 1950. He started working at Uniroyal in 1964 as a Management Engineer in Canada and retired from Oxford, CT when they closed in 1985. He was Chairman of the Board of Education for Region 15 and was actively involved in the Cub Scouts. He was a 57 year mason and also belonged to the Elks. He was also a member of South Britain Congregational Church. He was a private Pilot and enjoyed repairing clocks and working on cars.
Besides his loving wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son Jay Townsend and his wife Susan of Westbrook, CT, a daughter Wendy Vaillancourt of Glastonbury, CT, a sister Jane Foy of Hamilton, NJ, four grandchildren, Ryan, Katlyn and Colin Townsend and Nathan Vaillancourt and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Karl Townsend.
A Funeral service will be held on Thursday April 26th at 10:30am at the South Britain Congregational Church, Rt. 172, South Britain. Burial is at Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury.
