Mr. John "Charlie" Rutledge, 64, of Woodbury died Wednesday February 17, 2010 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Kathrine (Will) Rutledge. Charlie was born July 28, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland a son of the late Charles Calder Rutledge and Jean (O'Sullivan) Rutledge of Frederick, Maryland.
A devoted husband, Charlie worked for 37 years at IBM. He was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church and an active member of the Woodbury Lion's Club. He had a great love for life and strongly believed in giving back to the community. Charlie served as co-chair for the Woodbury People of Faith, Director of Emergency Planning and was past Vice-President of the Woodbury Community Services Council. He was an avid car and wine enthusiast and loved photography.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 4 brothers, Mac Rutledge of Boonesboro, MD, Tom Rutledge of St. John, ND, Phil Rutledge of Denver, CO and Jerry Rutledge of Mt. Airy, MD as well as 3 nieces, Ashlee, Allison and Anna Rutledge and a nephew, Jacques Rutledge.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Charlie Rutledge to Memorial Sloan Cancer Center, 633 3rd Ave. New York, New York 10017.
Cemetery: Old North Cemetery
Location: Munson-Lovetere Woodbury
Funeral: St. Teresa's Church
Services: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday February 20, 2010 at 10am at St. Teresa's Church, Woodbury. Burial will take place in Old North Cemetery, Woodbury in the spring.
Visitation: Friends may call at North Congregational Church in Woodbury on Friday February 19, 2010 from 5 - 8pm.
