Irene Lena Konrad, 91, of Southbury, died on October 27 at Glen Hill Rehabilitation Center in Danbury after a short illness. Irene was born November 23, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York, one of three children of Inger and Lars Thomas. She attended Pace College and Katherine Gibbs School and became a much sought after secretary. Irene worked in the private financial sector and the public school system of Darien, CT.
Mrs. Konrad continually pursued education. She had a keen interest in world literature as well as being a student of the Bible. She taught Sunday school and pursed a career as a court stenographer. She had a great love of animals, especially dogs and cats.
Mrs. Konrad survived her husband of sixty-three years, John Andrew Konrad. Mr. Konrad was a decorated veteran of World War II. She also survived a daughter, Carolyn. Mrs. Konrad leaves a son, John Charles Thomas Konrad and a daughter-in-law, Robin Gans of Stamford.
