Homer R Underwood, 93, widower of Jacqueline Joray Underwood, died on Wednesday Nov 13, 2014 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's. Homer was born April 19, 1921. He was a Selectman in the town of Washington (1959-72). He began and operated Underwood Services in Washington beginning in 1952 for many decades. He ran for first Selectman on a couple of occasions. When he came very close to winning the election to First Selectman, he never ran for the position again saying, 'I didn't know how I could run this business and the town at the same time.' He served in the US Navy in the Pacific theater in WWII. He told many stories of his time on the 'islands'
