Obituary

Heinz-Guenther Behnken, age 86, from Woodbury, found his path to peace on Saturday, October 22, 2016. He was the husband of the late Jean Behnken, whom he missed greatly and will be reunited with her spirit.
Born in Bremen, Germany on August 20, 1930 to Albert Hinrich Behnken and Margarete (Winkelmann) Behnken, he leaves a legacy few can claim. A young boy trying to understand and deal with the turmoils of WWII, surviving challenges only few can imagine. Because of those challenges he was only able to complete a rudimentary education, but this did not hinder his successes. His desire and internal drive moved him through the technical skills in the automotive and construction fields in Germany and the US, ultimately retiring from Churchill Business Forms in Newtown, CT. After meeting the love of his life, as she was on vacation in Germany, he wanted a better life for his growing family and they immigrated to America in 1964, later moving to Woodbury in 1968 and raising their family. He was a very kind, generous and hardworking man but always found time to do the things he enjoyed. He loved sailing, model airplanes, traveling and could fix and build anything.
His greatest joy was his family; his son Ron Behnken and wife Kathy from Wilmington, NC, his son Holger Behnken and wife Svetlana of Ogden, UT, his daughter Christine Glennon and husband Scott of West Harford, CT, his daughter Karin Damiani and husband Tony of Goshen, CT., and his adored grandchildren Aundre, Ashley, Holland, Rebecca and Kaitlyn. He also leaves a brother, Johann Behnken and wife Ursel of Florida, a brother Klaus Behnken and wife Ulla and a sister Marianne Burfiend both from Germany; several cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many special friends.
