Harvey C. Root, 87, passed away peacefully at River Glen Health Care Center on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Harvey was born on April 13, 1934, the son of the late Irene (Large) and Sydney Root. A native of Connecticut, Harvey was a graduate of Staples High School in Westport, Class of 1952.

He then proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years.  After serving our country, Harvey began his career as a building contractor.  He built and renovated many homes in Redding and surrounding towns.  Harvey was a reputable contractor – an honest man of good character who produced quality work.  In the 1980's, Harvey owned and operated Rootwood, specializing in fine millwork.  Later on, Harvey became a project manager for several large construction companies.

Harvey had a wonderful smile and kind words for everyone he met.  He enjoyed music and played the violin for 12 years.  He spent weekends playing golf with his sons and friends, which included many special golf trips.  Harvey was creative, his hobbies included building model airplanes and cooking.  Taking long walks with his beloved dog, Heidi, was also highly important in his life.

Harvey loved his family.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen; his four children, David Root and his wife, Janice, of Massachusetts; Dan Root of Florida; Martha Fagan and her husband, Jim, of Massachusetts; Jason Root and his wife, Wendy, of Connecticut. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Harvey is also survived by Kathleen's two children, Susan Tracy and her husband, Jim, and their two children, of Connecticut; Jeff Harrick and his wife, Kelly, and their two children, of North Carolina.  In addition, Harvey leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and his cousin, Susan Clifford, of California.  Harvey was predeceased by his sister, Dolores Gerety, of Connecticut.

During Harvey's time at River Glen, they provided him with exceptional care, always with a display of compassion.  For that professional kindness, the family is so grateful.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N. Southbury, CT 06488.
