Obituary

Mr. Harry Zarin, 94, of Southbury, Ct died Friday September 12, 2008. He was the beloved husband of the late Fay Zarin and adored father of Michelle, Judith, Nancy and Deborah. Mr. Zarin was born November 3, 1913 in Gomel, Russia to Sadie and Isidore Zarin. He immigrated to New York at the age of 10 and grew up in Newark, NJ and Brooklyn, NY. He was active in the labor movements of his day and was part of the artistic scene in 1930s Greenwich Village. He was also a talented athlete and, at one point, was recruited to play semi-professional football. As a child, Mr. Zarin showed artistic promise and was given his first easel by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He continued to paint for his entire life, maintaining a studio wherever he lived and completing the last of hundreds of paintings just two months before his death. In addition to art, classical music was a lifelong passion. He held a special affection for Franz Schubert, whose music he once described as "tears dipped in honey." In business, Mr. Zarin first worked as a textile designer. He then bought and developed a successful kitchen countertop and cabinet business, Roseline Products.
Besides his loving daughters, Mr. Zarin is survived by his adoring brother Sol and sister-in-law Beverly, sons-in-law, Gerald Rosenfeld, Carl Salter and Jeffrey Marqusee, nephews, Michael and Larry, 10 remarkable grandchildren and step-grandchildren and two adorable great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
