Mr. Harry J. Gaffney, 88, of Southbury died December 9, 2016. He was the husband of Marie (DiRuocco) Gaffney.

Mr. Gaffney was born on November 19, 1928 in Weehawken, NJ a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Balfour) Gaffney. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served his country twice in World War II and Korea. He was a publisher and Editor in Chief at William H Sadlier Incorporated in New York City and greatly enjoyed reading. Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney moved to Heritage Village in Southbury in 2000 where he was the former President of the men's club, active in the Theatre Guild and the Heritage Singers and many other committees in the Village. He was a member of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Church.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son Michael Gaffney of Croton on Hudson, NY, two daughters Elizabeth Gaffney of Hastings, NY and Eileen Morra of Mt. Kisco, NY. He also leaves a brother John Gaffney and his wife Irma of Lutz, FL, a sister Norah Haggerty and her husband James of Irvington, NY and seven grandchildren. Harry was predeceased by his first wife Mary and daughter Clare Polidore of White Plains, NY.

Funeral: Sacred Heart Church

Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, corner of Main St. South and Rt. 172 in Southbury. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.

Visitation: Friends may call on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere; 235 Main St. North from 2-4PM and again from 6-8PM.
