IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold "Hal"
Wylie, Jr.
May 25, 1929 – April 7, 2025
Harold H. (Hal) Wylie, Jr, 95, of Southbury, died on April 7, 2025 in Southbury, CT. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Jean (Seewald). Since 2017, Hal had been enjoying his final years living at Pomperaug Woods continuing care retirement community where he was active in their current events discussion group, sang with the inhouse chorus, played bridge and poker, and had many lovely friends.
Born May 25, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Hal was the son of the late Harold H. and the late Vera D. Wylie. After graduating from The Blake School in Hopkins, Minnesota, and then from the University of Minnesota in 1951, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, he proudly served two years in the United States Air Force.
Hal and Jean raised their 2 daughters in Illinois where they bought a horse farm in Lake Forest. Riding the big tractor to mow the fields, hopping on the horses for a family ride, or even sitting on the porch with Barney the barn cat on his lap (Hal was allergic, so the cat wasn't allowed inside), are all cherished memories.
His outgoing personality led Hal to a career in sales beginning with Sunbeam, followed by 32 years with Timex, starting in Chicago, then receiving a promotion to a senior management position at the corporate office in Connecticut before retiring in 1992.
Continuing a lifelong interest in choral singing, Hal was a past President and 1980 charter member of the Connecticut Choral Society, performing locally, as well as at Carnegie Hall and participating in overseas tours. Whether it was singing in a barbershop quartet or in the North Congregational Church choir, Hal could be heard sharing his beautiful tenor voice.
Volunteering and supporting his community were Hal's passion. In recognition of his many years of dedication to community service, he was presented with both the prestigious James J. Clark Memorial Award in 2005 and, in 2008, the Bernard Rosenberg award. His daughters are so proud of their dad who always looked out for others. Whether it was Hal's many years with FISH of Woodbury providing volunteer transportation to medical appointments, a Board member of the Old Woodbury Historical Society, a member of the Woodbury Lions Club, President of the Woodbury Hill Condo Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater Waterbury and of the Woodbury Pension and Retirement Board, his joy came from helping others. Hal's thoughts were always of others, and he even made plans to have his pacemaker donated to an organization that helps dogs with heart challenges.
Hal leaves daughter Suzanne Jenny of Woodbury, granddaughter Alyssa Jenny, former son-in-law Robert Jenny, and daughter Jennifer Kanefsky and son-in-law Peter Kanefsky of Troy, Michigan. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Morris, of Bloomington, Minnesota. In addition, he leaves behind two nephews, Jeffrey Morris and Randy Morris.
He was a long-time active member and Deacon of North Congregational Church. A celebration of life will be held at North Congregational Church in Woodbury May 3, 2025 at 11am with a reception following. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be directed to North Congregational Church, P.O. Box 473, Woodbury, CT 06798 who was more supportive than words can say. Trinity Health Hospice provided such wonderful care and support, we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.
