SOUTHBURY- Harold "Harry E. Harris, 77, of Southbury, passed away Friday July 18, 2008 at Danbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Batchelor) Harris.
Mr. Harris was born September 20, 1930 in Bayonne, NJ, son of the late Harold H. and Estelle (Kately) Harris. He graduated from Snyder High School, Jersey City, NJ; St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ with a BA in Accounting; NYU with an MBA in Finance and Harvard Business School with an Advanced Management Degree. He has resided in Southbury for the past 9 years, previously living in Siesta Key, FL for 15 years, Westport, CT for 7 years, and West Caldwell, NJ.
Mr. Harris was Chief Financial Officer (C.F.O.) & Vice President at Becton-Dickenson & Co., President of Ivers-Lee, C.F.O & Vice President of Electrolux, C.F.O. & Vice President of Sara Lee Corporation and C.F.O. of DeVry Corporation, retiring in 1988. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He attended the Officers Training School, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He served on a Destroyer and was appointed Assistant Superintendent of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many other sports activities, especially baseball.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son Craig C. Harris and his wife Heidi of Newtown, CT; three daughters Kathleen Skinner and her husband Thomas of Westport, Ct, Eileen Thirkield and her husband Bryan of Trumbull, Ct and Susan Harris of Hollywood, CA. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Nick and Lena Harris, Kate, Alex, Maddie and Tillie Skinner & Sarah and Laura Thirkield. He also leaves a sister in-law, Barbara Rosselot and her husband Robert of West Caldwell, NJ, two nephews Rob Rosselot and his wife Michele of State College, PA and Ryan Rosselot of Great Meadows, NJ.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harry's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Cemetery: New North Cemetery
Location: Munson-Lovetere Southbury
Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at 10 a.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North.
Visitation: Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 22nd from 4-7 p.m.
