Obituary

Hanley (Hank) Craig Meirowitz passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, five days after his 90th birthday. He was buried in Paramus, New Jersey on Sunday, July 24, 2022, attended by his cousins Bruce and Rhoda Chait, other family members, and dear friends Jane Hellman and Anne Rothstein.

Hank was pre-deceased by father, Harry, beloved mother Bella, brother Martin, and lifelong friend Maurice Goldstein. He is survived by his cousins Bruce and Rhoda Chait, Diane (Chait) and Bob Goldstein, niece Suzanne Nederlander (Meirowitz) and nephews Louis, Clifford, and Spencer Meirowitz.

He will be greatly missed by the many, many, friends with whom he shared his joyfulness, views on life, humor, photography, opinions, and extraordinary presence. He rarely met someone new who did not become a friend.

Hank grew up in Woodmere, Long Island and New York City. He attended Hamilton College and earned a B.A. degree. Early in his career he worked with his father and brother in Harry Meirowitz and Sons Textile business. He subsequently opened a children's clothing store, Prissy Miss, on Madison Avenue, and then became a realtor in Connecticut.

For much of his life he attended Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue in Manhattan, sitting next to his father, before Harry passed away, and then commuting for High Holy Day Services even after he moved to Connecticut. In recent years he attended services at B'nai Israel in Southbury.

His overwhelming lifelong passion, however, was photography. He traveled extensively and captured the essence of every country he visited through extraordinary views of castles, synagogues, churches, rivers, lakes, flowers, gardens, and people. Most of all, his photos of people were breathtakingly realistic and captured the essence of the individuals. Those attending his photo exhibits in libraries around Connecticut were always awed by the realism of his work. His was able to bring the world to Connecticut in stunning detail.

Hank was proud to bear the title of Portrait Photographer of The Pampered Pet, using his talent to capture the personality of his subjects in his studio in New Milford. He had been a pet photographer for years and entertained many four-legged friends in his studio.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury Connecticut, hosted by his dear friends, Jane Hellman and Anne Rothstein. The memorial service will be conducted by Rabbi Eric Polokoff of B'nai Israel.
