NEWTOWN-Gordon Taylor Williams, 86, beloved husband of the late Sally Ann for more than 60 years, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2016 at his home in Newtown.
Gordon was born in Derby on July 18, 1929, son of the late Newton Halsted and Mildred Susan (Dings) Williams. He graduated from Newtown High School in 1947 then earned a degree in engineering from the University of Connecticut, where Gordon was a brother of Delta Sigma. He spent his career working on the design and production of rod end bearings, where he had many patented designs.
He and his late wife, Sally Ann, devoted their free time to helping the aging members of their family. For many years Gordon and Sally volunteered for Meals on Wheels and donated generously to charities. Together they enjoyed traveling the country with a passion for the Blue Ridge Mountains and the coast of Maine. He loved NASCAR and passed an appreciation for classic cars onto his son, David, who for years brought his father to enjoy the vintage races at Lime Rock. He was an avid gardener, growing rows of vegetables to compliment his wife's flower beds and took down trees well into his eighties with his late brother Marshall.
Gordon is survived by his son, Robert and his wife, Debora Koontz, of New York, their children, Devin and Naomi, his son, David and his wife, Susan, of Woodbury, their daughters, Sarah, Megan and Isabel, his daughter, Laurie and her husband, Neal Garnsey, of New York, their children, Johanna and Andrew, along with his brother, Newton, of Newtown. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia (Sally Ann), his daughter, Susan, and his brother, Marshall, also of Newtown.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday, April 15th, from 6 - 8 pm at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home in Woodbury. Funeral service will be private for immediate family.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or simply lend a hand to someone in need.
