Gloria G. Trede, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 27th, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
Born in Stratford, Connecticut, on August 25th, 1934, to the late August and Emma (Gertz) Goglin, Gloria was a long-time resident of Connecticut, having lived in Monroe, Oxford, and Southbury. She attended Stratford High School and worked for Avco Lycoming in Stratford.
Gloria was the beloved wife of Frederick J. Trede, for predeceased her in 2012. She met Frederick on a blind date, and their connection was immediate and enduring, marking the beginning of their shared history.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gloria's life was centered around her family. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Gram, Grammy, and GiGi. She cherished hosting holiday celebrations and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Gloria was a kind, caring, loving, and funny person, whose joyful spirit earned her the affectionate nickname “Betty White” from her children.
Gloria’s surviving family includes her devoted children: Frederick Trede Jr. and his wife Sharon of Oak Island, North Carolina; Laurie Varholak and her husband Lawrence of Southbury, Connecticut; and Michael Trede and his wife Kelley of Sandy Hook, Connecticut. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Varholak, Eric Varholak and his wife Jennifer, Lauren (Varholak) Tocco and her husband Stephen, Tyler Trede, and Tanner Trede. Gloria was also a proud great-grandmother to Kinsley, Avery, Demi, Luka, Ella, and Beyla. Her beloved extended family includes her daughter-in-law Sharon's children, Anthony and Jeanette and their families.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful, dedicated staff of Vitas, TLC, and all the caregivers whose compassion and service reflect God's work.

A calling hour will take place Thursday April 16, 2026 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at St James Lutheran Church, 111 Peter Rd., Southbury Connecticut. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
