Obituary

Glenn D. "Sonny" Bennett, 84, passed away at home in Southbury surrounded by family on Thursday, October 6, 2022.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Shirley A. (Buchanan) Bennett.

He was born to parents Glenndon and Florence Bennett (Allison), on January 27, 1938, in Stamford, Connecticut. Sonny graduated from Wright Tech and served in the US Army in France.  After his military service, Sonny had a successful career as a Sheet Metal Worker and was member of Local 38. He lived and raised his family in Southbury for 50 years.

He was a kind, gentle man, that was always willing to lend a hand. He was always the first person called when something needed to be fixed.  He inherited his love of birds from his parents and in retirement he perfected the model for the perfect birdhouse.  He loved to give them to family and friends and inquire about the current occupants.  Sonny was also a gifted storyteller and loved to share a good laugh.  While nature shows were a favorite, he also loved to attend stock car races or watch a good car race on TV.

He is survived by his brother Donald (Arlene) of New Fairfield, son Tim of Rehoboth Beach, DE, son Rick of Naugatuck, granddaughters Amanda (Kortland Maguire) of Fort Bragg, NC, and Taylor (Brendan Hale) of Southbury.  He was the proud great grandfather to Nolan and Karson and leaves an extended family of nieces, nephews, and friends.

There will be no services per his request, but to honor him hang a bird house this Spring and make your house a home.
