Obituary



SOUTHBURY - George J. Pond, 70, of Southbury passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Sandra Hoffer Pond for 44 years.

George was born in Bridgeport, CT to George W. and Antonia S. Pond. He graduated from Fairfield Prep School and received a baseball scholarship to Villanova University. George had an impressive High School and College baseball career and won many honors and awards as a catcher. He went on to have a long and successful career as an expert in logistics in the aerospace industry and was able to travel the world through his work experiences.

George's love of sports continued throughout his life. An avid tennis player, he also coached little league baseball and basketball in the community. He followed many sports closely, but always rooted for his beloved Villanova Wildcats. George was known as an incredibly strong man filled with compassion, patience and quiet devotion to his faith.

Along with his wife, he leaves behind his daughter, Asheley Pond Wardell and her husband, Todd Wardell, of Bethel, his son, Christopher C. Pond, of Orlando, Florida, an aunt and many cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kert Sabbath and the staff of the Smilow Cancer Center for their compassionate care of George.

Location: Munson-Lovetere Southbury

Services: The family will be holding a small private ceremony at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. A celebrat5ion of George's life will be held at a later date.

Visitation: There are no calling hours.
