GEORGE B. GRECENKO, JR.

WATERTOWN: George B. Grecenko, Jr. of Watertown, CT , previously of Woodbury, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital. Mr. Grecenko was born on May 3, 1938 in New York City and moved to Southbury, CT with his family in 1943. He was the son of the late George V. Grecenko, Sr. and Vera (Ruzichka) Grecenko. He was a long time Woodbury resident and most recently moved to Watertown. He was a retired Mechanical Engineer and Facilities Director.

Besides his wife of 32 years, Mary Grecenko, he leaves his sister, Nina Grecenko of Southbury; his daughters, Elayne Carlson and her husband Carl of Watertown; Tamara Hoffman and her husband George of New Hampshire; and his son, James Grecenko of Litchfield, Maine. He also leaves his grandchildren Erin Carlson, James Grecenko, and Gunner, Mischa, Molly and George Hoffman, and his former wife Lois Grecenko of Bethlehem, CT.

George graduated from Southbury High School (Seymour High School-Southbury Consolidated) in 1956. He also served in the Army/National Guard of CT from 1957 thru 1963. He graduated from Lowell Technological Institute in Lowell Mass in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science/Textile Engineering Degree.

George was a past member of the Southbury Lions Club; a Life Member of ASME International (American Society of Mechanical Engineers); a member of AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association) since 1974; a member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) since 1972; and The International Cessna 170 Association, Inc. since 1973. George had a tremendous passion for airplanes and flying, had both private and commercial pilot's licenses, and even built his own amphibious plane. He also enjoyed boating and could build or fix just about anything. He was a very hard working "Jack of all trades" with a super amount of knowledge.
