George Thomas Fischer, 87, of Heritage Village died Saturday June 14, 2008. He was born on December 29, 1920 at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, the son of the late Alice Marie and Louis A. Fischer. He is survived by his son, Keith and his wife Ashley of Wilton, Conn., daughter Elizabeth and her husband Col. Thomas Sullivan of Lillian, Alabama, son Andrew of South Dartmouth, Mass. George is further survived by two grandsons, being Arthur White, a recent graduate of University of Vermont and Christopher White, who graduated this May from Salve Regina College, two sisters Muriel Hamer and Alice Kramer.
George is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Jean S. Fischer and his daughter Nancy and her husband William White.
Mr. Fischer attended public schools in Plainfield, New Jersey, graduated from the Perkiomen School of Pennsburg, Pa., and Nichols College of Webster, Mass. He served in the Central Pacific and China during World War II as a Navy pilot.
After the war he worked for and became Vice President of the Fischer Casting Company Inc of Middlesex, N.J. He also served as director of the Non Ferris Founders Association and the American Foundry Society.
In 1948 President Eisenhower appointed him to the Executive Reserve of the United States. He was re appointed by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. In 1978 he was elected to the Plainfield City Council and re elected in 1970 for another two year term. As councilman he was chairman of the Uniformed Services Department (Police and Firemen) and a member of the Planning Board.
George was active in fund raising for local and national charities and a member of the Heritage Village Ambulance for six years. He was a member of the Plainfield Country Club for 28 years and the Heritage Village Country Club for 15 years.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Southbury Dog Park, 1021 Old Field Road, Southbury Ct 06488 where during their retirement years George and Jean spent much time with their dog Charlie.

Services: A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church 910 Main Street South, Southbury, CT on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11 am. Burial is private.
