Obituary


Bethlehem, CT - Mr. George C. Eggert, 80, of Bethlehem passed away peacefully at St. Mary's hospital in Waterbury, CT on June 12, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann Eggert for 56 years.
Mr. Eggert enjoyed the outdoors and had been an avid hunter and fisherman. He scuba dived all over the world and enjoyed rollerblading. He was a former first selectman and constable for the town of Bethlehem and served with the Bethlehem Ambulance Association for many years. He was also a sheriff for the Litchfield County judicial district. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling to exotic places.
Mr. Eggert was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a medic for the Navy and Marines.
He retired from running his own business, North East Sales Agency, in the late 1990s.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Christina Eggert of Naugatuck, CT and Celia Eggert of Granby, CT. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Hornbostel and sister, Lois Hornbostel, both of whom live in North Carolina. He was predeceased by his sister, Audrey Kingery, who lived in Greenwich, CT.

Services: Funeral services were private. Interment was in Carmel Road Cemetery in Bethlehem, CT.
