IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary G.
Matison
March 23, 1945 – December 15, 2022
Gary G. Matison passed on early Thursday morning December 14, 2022 after suffering a massive stroke. He was 77 years old. Gary was born March 23, 1945 in Israel and immigrated to the United States when he was twelve. He was challenged to learn English but eventually he was as proficient as native-born Americans. He was happy to become an American citizen and remembered the day it happened with immense pride.
Gary always liked to be useful and worked hard at anything he had undertaken. He was extremely reliable and careful of detail. He was exceptionally good at both academic learning and practical application of many fields. He earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from UConn.
He was a quiet, pensive person. He liked classical music and listened to it to relax. Gary also liked to stream classic movies off the net. He liked to fix or repair all appliances and understood how they were designed. He even designed some himself and had several patents. He was a great NY Yankees fan and watched a game whenever he could.
His sister recalls that as a small child he had beautiful light blond hair, and his parents did not give him his first hair cut until he was three and a half years old. His inquisitive blue eyes looked all over and at the age of three, he could already read Hebrew children's books by himself.
He never had to be taught anything, he knew how to fix things just by looking at a broken object and figuring out what was wrong. He had a few very good friends but did not go to play with the children, he would rather read or try to build something. He was bored in elementary school but flourished under the American educational system which eventually took him to MIT.
He had a lot of work experience in both large and small companies. He worked for Verizon for the longest, 15 years in their Science and Technology department.
He will be missed.
Gary is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara Matison, and his two children, Sharon and Leora Matison. He is also survived by his sister Dalia.
