IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gail U
Pichiarallo
October 16, 1961 – July 3, 2022
On July 3, 2022, Gail Underhill Pichiarallo, age 60, passed away at Danbury Hospital after battling lung disease. Born in 1961 in Mt. Kisco, New York, Gail lived in Brookfield and Danbury for most of her adult life.
Gail's legacy is her selfless dedication to family and friends. She was a pillar of support, offering wisdom and guidance to those who loved her. She was strong, and she approached life's challenges head on, without fear or complaint, and often in private. When her mother was in the late stages of her life, Gail became the primary caregiver, putting her mother first over her own needs. She loved babies and crocheted countless baby blankets for her friends' children. She held holiday dinners and gatherings for special occasions. She embraced her nieces and nephews as her own children. She had strong life-long friendships as well. She will be remembered for her smile, her hugs, her generosity, and her support. She embraced all parts of life: celebrating milestone events, helping during struggles, and sharing in the joys. She was always there to give a "sister fix". She was a cheerleader and a sounding board; bringing peace, love, comfort, and the spirit of love to all who knew her. She knew that life was precious and not to be taken for granted. Through it all, she rarely asked for anything for herself. Her presence in all our lives will be deeply missed.
Gail graduated from Brookfield High School and attended Western Connecticut State University. As a professional, Gail rose in the banking industry at a time when women were not fully represented. From 1981 to 1990, she worked at People's United Bank where she started as a bank teller and rose to the position of District Manager overseeing over 10 branches. From 1990 to 1993, she was the founder and treasurer of the Danbury Furniture Outlet. From 1994 to the present, she served as the administrator to Connecticut State Marshal Steve Pichiarallo.
Though she rarely mentioned or promoted it, Gail was active in her community. She served on the Board of Directors for Western Connecticut Federal Credit Union. She founded and served as treasurer of Command Performance, a performing arts organization dedicated to bringing high caliber jazz, classical and cultural events to greater Danbury. She served as a Danbury Jaycee member, including a three-year stint as Chapter newsletter editor where she won a state award for her contributions. She also used her accounting and bookkeeping skills to help lower income people use the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Gail was a lover of theater, cruises, the beach, the ocean, and the many dogs she had throughout her life. She would regularly attend the Westchester Theater with her friends to watch the Christmas show. She exchanged angels with her friends every Christmas. While this exchange will not happen this year, she will be remembered forever.
Gail is survived by her partner Peter McAllister, Steve Pichiarallo, Sharon (Underhill) Bissonnette, Wesley Underhill, many loving nieces and nephews, and her beloved beagle Pepsi. She is the daughter of the late George H. Underhill, Jr. and the late Jane (MacDonald) Underhill MacLellan. She is predeceased by her brother George Underhill III and her step-father Robert MacLellan.
A celebration of life in Gail's memory will be held on Saturday, July 16 from 4pm to 6pm at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home at 2 School Street in Woodbury, Connecticut. A service will begin at 5:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gail's memory to the Alpha-1 Foundation (www.alpha1.org), which encourages testing for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency among those at high risk for this genetic disorder and supports research to find a cure.
