Obituary

Gaetano (Guy) Salvatore Buccino passed away peacefully at the age of 93. He was born on April 13, 1929 in New Haven, Connecticut to Nunzio Buccino and Jospephine LaValle Buccino, first-generation immigrants from Italy. He is survived by his wife, Anne Buccino, son, Guy Buccino, daughter, Susan Buccino, nephew, Alexander Buccino, niece Tracey Buccino, and niece, Nancy Perkel. Gaetano was predeceased by his brother Salvatore Buccino of Kenner, LA, and his sister-in-law, Victoria Milliken Buccino.

Gaetano earned his Bachelor of Science from Providence College in 1951. Upon graduating, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war he was employed by American Cyanamid where he helped to develop processes which were awarded patents for the manufacture, testing, and packaging of surgical equipment. While employed at American Cyanamid, he earned a Master's degree and left his research position to become a teacher. He taught Chemistry and Physics at Waterbury State Technical College for 46 years, first as a full Professor, and later, as Faculty Emeritus.

Guy enjoyed the challenge of learning how to build and fix things. He rebuilt the engine of 1958 Volkswagen Bug which he used for years on his daily commute, and 1961 Volkswagen Microbus which he used to take the family camping to the Expo '67 World's Fair in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He enjoyed working with wood, stone and landscaping for various projects. He loved caring for his dogs and was compassionate towards all animals. His favorite animal companions were his German Shepherd  Topo, who would watch him repair his lawn equipment or work in the garden when he lived in Bethel, CT., and his Dachshund Katy, whom he took for long walks with him in Woodbury, CT.'s Flanders Nature Center.
