Frank Dykty
World War II Veteran
Frank Dykty, 94, of Southbury, died March 23, 2015 peacefully at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Marion (Benedict) Dykty. Frank was born November 28, 1920 in Ansonia, son of the late Walter and Mary Dykty and spent his youth in "The Valley". Mechanically gifted, Frank served as a flight engineer on a B-17 "Flying Fortress", during WW II as a member of the Army Air Corp, 8th Air Force, 388th Bombardment Group. He logged 30 missions over Northern Europe and Germany. Returning home, he continued his life journey, settling in Southbury to start a family and a career. Frank was employed by the Farrel Corporation in Ansonia until retirement. He traveled to distant paper mills throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. He enjoyed his travels and always made friends. Frank was an avid and accomplished fly fisherman, having waded the Farmington and Housatonic Rivers for over 60 years. He returned home with his limit of trout to help feed the "crew", but later in life often returned his quarry to the river. Frank also loved to hunt; bird hunting with his dogs Patches and Bud and deer hunting in Washington County, Maine. He loved all the wild animals and his birds. The family would like to thank his kind and compassionate caregivers for the care they provided, especially Beacon Hospice, Pat & Butch. Frank is survived by his son William and his wife Sue of Woodbury, son Joseph and his wife Brigitte of Clarksville, TN, son Thomas of Southbury, daughter Patricia of Oxford, son Bruce and his girlfriend Allison of Prospect, son Michael and girlfriend Donna of Monroe and daughter Kathleen of Sherman; grandchildren, Rebecca, Shannon, Jill, Christine, Kevin and Catherine and great grandchildren, Chantre and Dante and his great grandson Brendan, who he shared a special bond and Frank's cat Bambi.
