Florence Elaine Ross of Heritage Village, Southbury, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of her loving husband of 63 years, Bernard Ross. Born in Astoria, Queens, New York on January 4, 1926, Florence was the daughter of Reuben and Sarah Jarmul and the sister of the late Seymour Jarmul, her beloved big brother. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Julie Ross of Slingerlands, New York and her daughter and son-in-law Janet and Ira Greene of Kew Gardens Hills, New York. She is also survived by her adored grandsons Andrew Greene, Kyle Ross and Ian Ross. She grew up in Astoria and graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1946 with a teaching degree. After completing the Foreign Language Immersion Course at Middlebury College in Vermont, she began teaching Spanish in the New York City School system to begin a forty year career in education. After having her two children she returned to teaching and also went back to Queens College to obtain her Masters in Library Science in 1967. After graduating she became the school librarian at P.S. 120, Flushing, Queens for over twenty years, until her retirement. Florence had a passion and gift for teaching young people and literally touched thousands of lives in the course of her career. Florence's favorite pastime throughout her life was the Broadway Theater. Those who have been to her home have seen her huge collection of Playbills representing seven decades of memories of plays and musicals she attended and loved. She moved to Heritage Village with Bernie in 1992 where she lived her retirement years surrounded by hundreds of loving and caring friends who made her life rich and complete in every way.

Services: Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 1: 30 p.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North. Burial will follow in Farband Cemetery in Morris.
