IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Florence R.
Magdits
September 17, 1923 – February 5, 2022
Florence R Magdits, 98 of Southbury, passed away peacefully in the care and comfort of her home on February 5, 2022 after a long and fulfilling life. She was born on September 17, 1923 in New York City to the late Richard and Beatrice (Rush) Schmedes. She worked as a Representative at the New York Telephone Company many years and retired in 1985. She met the love of her life, Edward A Magdits when she was 15 years old. They married on January 26, 1946 and celebrated 69 years of marriage prior to Edward's passing in 2015. They raised their family in the Bronx, NY. They later resided in Thornwood, NY and finally Heritage Village in Southbury.
She loved to travel with her family and friends. Travels included France, England, St. Martin, Virgin Islands, Italy, Morocco, Russia, Cancun, Germany and all over the USA. She was an avid reader and loved to dance. Edward and Florence made a striking couple dancing at many a function. Florence loved all the classic movies and often watched the classics with her sister Dolores as they discussed every bit of information about the movie, it's making, the actors and their history.
She is survived by her daughter Lynda Megura and son-in-law Jim Megura of Southbury, her grandson Matthew K. Magdits, her sister Dolores Beavers of Southbury, her brother Richard Schmedes and sister-in-law Ann of North Port, Florida. She is predeceased by her husband Edward A. Magdits and her son Edward R. Magdits.
She had a smile and an encouraging positive word for everyone she encountered. She created friends and admirers wherever she went. She was a one-of-a-kind sharp, witty kindhearted person. She had a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes and a wry sense of humor.
The family would like to thank all the amazing home health aides who took such good care of her including Karen, Kathleen, Dorothy, Lyn, Ling and Terencia.
