Obituary

Faith Kommel Gabriel, of Southbury, Connecticut, formerly of Bridgewater, Connecticut and New York City passed away on November 3, 2025, and was officially pronounced on November 4 at the age of 96. Faith was born on September 4, 1929, in Manhattan, New York, as the middle child of three, sibling to her older sister Margot and younger brother Aaron "Billy". She lived in New York City on Sutton Place, later moving to a more pastoral and calmer setting in Bridgewater, CT, where it reflected the changing tempo of life. Faith along with her husband Richard, and their two children Suzanne Beth and Steven Adam embraced the Connecticut country life. In later years, she moved to Pomperaug Woods, a senior living community, with her husband Richard. As an excellent planner and forward thinker, she knew that they could enjoy their later years there, with the range of quality care, community, and creativity that were provided. Faith, and her husband Richard, provided a loving, and nurturing home for their children and instilled in them a belief that if you focus and strive for your goals, and never give up even when things were challenging, that a solution would appear. As a true Virgo Faith had great attention to details, with a focus on her objective in sight knowing that she would find a way. This meticulous attention to details was in fact epitomized by her elementary school teaching career where she spent many hours preparing the classroom for the best experience for her students. She was a beloved Grandmother to Caden Decima and Eric Alexander whom she adored. With an interest and curiosity about learning and acquiring a wide knowledge of topics, she got her bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and then at a later stage of life went on to get her master's degree in education at New York University (NYU), while also teaching. She worked at the Perry Como Show, McCall's magazine, some fashion modeling, teaching elementary education in Washington Depot, CT and later at the Burnham School in Bridgewater, CT. Then later she worked as a Copy Editor for different children's books. One book that she edited was for the story/movie "The Night at the Museum". She also wrote her own book on art projects for children. Attention to detail was her forte, and she greatly enjoyed and excelled in this. She was tenacious, with a great work ethic and always strove for excellence in all that she did. She had many interests, loved collecting antique China Head dolls, reading compelling books gotten from the library, traveling the world locally and internationally, entertaining friends for dinner especially creating dishes from scratch, and showed her amazing green thumb for gardening. Faith could figure out how to do anything, including creating a product to sell at the Bridgewater Country Fair. These were intricate multi-colored beaded belts she designed and created from a graph paper pattern, that were lovely. At one time she had attended F.I.T., the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and had used these skills directly to create some clothes and had branched off into needlepoint where she crafted this beautiful canvas of an angel with Crewel Stitch work of flowers, which was incredible. Besides all her work and hobby interests, she also volunteered at the Burnham Library in Bridgewater, and helped with book sales, while at the same time teaching at the school, and put to use her talent for organizing, categorizing, and love of reading.

Faith will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. The values she instilled in her children and grandchildren will live on in them as well as the caring for and selfless devotion to others. There will be a Private Memorial Service and Celebration of Life. The Private Burial will be at the Bridgewater South Cemetery.
