Evelyn Frances (Pitts) Dover, 95, of Heritage Village, Southbury died Tuesday July 25 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.
Mrs. Dover was born June 28, 1911 in Albany, NY daughter of the late Arthur E. Pitts, MD and Caroline (Becker) Pitts.
Mrs. Dover went to school in Albany, NY before marrying PG Dover. They lived in New Jersey. She became a landscape and portrait painter and studied at The Art Students League in NYC and The Old Mill in Elizabethtown NY. After her divorce, she worked in the home fashions industry working for Cyrus Clark, G. Fox, Lord and Taylor, Old Sturbridge Village and Sterling Forest. In retirement she lived in North Chatham NY, Nokomis FL, Charlottesville VA, Hyannis MA, East Longmeadow MA and finally Heritage Village, Southbury CT.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Robert J. Finney of Bronxville NY, a sister Elizabeth Pitts Johnson of Nokomis FL and Indian Lake NY, two nephews, Jonathon Pitts and JQ Johnson and a Niece Marcia (Pitts) Meyer. She was predeceased by a brother Arthur E. Pitts Jr. and a nephew, Bruce Johnson.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday August 2 at 6pm at 332B Heritage Village, Southbury. Burial to be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Schodack, NY on September 23rd. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Singing Eagle Lodge, Ginny Scholarship Fund C/O Susan Kemp, 20 Lovewell Rd., Wellesley, MA, 02482 or Silent Unity Prayer Ministry in memory of Evelyn Dover, 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village, MO 64065. The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 235 Main St. N., is in charge of arrangements.
