Ernest S. Finch, 83, of Roxbury died on Friday August 1, 2014 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cynthia Weasa Finch as well as his children, Ernest (Butch) Finch and his wife Heidi, Linda Martin and her husband James, and Barbara Thompson and her husband Larry (Rocky), all of Roxbury. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Beth, Bryan, Ken, Brett and Wendy and two great grandchildren: Taylor and James. A third great grandchild is due soon. Ernie was born July 18, 1931 in Norwalk, CT to Ellen Yates and Stanley Finch. The family moved from Wilton to Roxbury in 1937 after purchasing Ridgeview Farm on Bacon Road. Ernie graduated from Woodbury High School where he was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) then remained on the farm to work beside his parents. He and Cynthia married in September 1949. Ernie was active in the community. He was the leader of the Shepaug Valley 4H Dairy Club for 25 years. He was a member of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. He was also active in several local Grange chapters. He enjoyed traveling and gardening and was proud to have his family living near him.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the local FFA chapter at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, the Litchfield County 4H Extension Center at 843 University Dr. Torrington, CT 06790, or the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department.

Services: A celebration of his life will take place at the Roxbury Congregational Church on Saturday August 9th at 12 pm. Burial will be in the Roxbury Center Cemetery.

Visitation: Friends may call at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St. in Woodbury on Friday August 8th from 6-8 pm.
