Erma Floridia, 88, of Woodbury, Connecticut, passed away March 8, peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 9, 1937, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Erma was the daughter of Liberato DiGenio and Zelinda (Minervini) DiGenio.
Erma devoted her life to caring for others, both as a nurse and as the heart of her family. Nursing was not simply her profession—it was her calling. She worked for forty years at the Southbury Training School, where she was known for her compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her patients. Post retirement, Erma continued to serve others as a nursing consultant for several local group homes. Her love for nursing was so strong that she continued working until the age of eighty.
Family was the center of Erma’s life. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren and found great joy in being present for the moments that mattered most—attending their sporting events, cheering from the sidelines, and celebrating their accomplishments. She was their biggest supporter and proudest fan.
Erma also enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She was an avid reader and a devoted New York Yankees fan. She took great joy in watching the UConn women’s basketball team win championship after championship. A woman of deep faith, Erma was active in the Nurse Ministry at St. Teresa of Avila Church, where she found great fulfillment helping others through her faith and her medical knowledge.
Erma is survived by her loving children, Paul Floridia, Michael Floridia, and Joanne Emanuel and her husband, Gil Rubin, whom she proudly and affectionately referred to as her “number one son-in-law.” She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Bailee Emanuel, Jay Emanuel, Giada Floridia and Dante Floridia.
She is also survived by her brother, Mario DiGenio, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Erma will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the deep love she shared with her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched throughout her long career in nursing. Her compassion and generosity of spirit leave a lasting legacy, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 14, from 9:00 - 10:00 at Munson -Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street Woodbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 at St. Tersea of Avila. To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit www.munsonloveterefuneralhome.com
