IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Enid B.
Gearity
December 13, 1924 – July 10, 2014
SOUTHBURY - Enid Lorraine (Barron) Gearity, 89, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in the VITAS Innovative Hospice Care unit at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the loving wife of Wilbur Gearity of Southbury.
Enid was born on December 13, 1924 in Kennett, Missouri, daughter of the late Lewis and Vera (Roland) Barron. Enid was a graduate of Lincoln (NE) High School and the University of Nebraska, earning a Bachelor's degree in Journalism in 1944. Enid and Wilbur were married in 1944, raised five children and enjoyed almost 70 years of marriage. During their time together, they lived in Lincoln, NE, Kissimmee, FL, Brooklyn, NY, Long Island and in Connecticut. During their 12 years in Ridgefield, Enid was the President of the Women's Town Club of Ridgefield and a volunteer with the OWLS senior center group for many years.
Enid enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren, and adored her friends in and around Heritage Village. She especially enjoyed gardening. In the Spring she would plant flowers along the walkways and hang as many flower baskets around her condo property as there were hooks to hold them. Enid had a warm, welcoming personality, making strangers feel like long-time friends after chatting with her for only a few minutes. Everyone who met her was amazed by her positive attitude and zest for living. Her loving grace and perpetual smile will be missed by family and friends.
In addition to Wilbur, Enid is survived by her daughters Patricia Gearity of Asheville, NC, Cathy Gearity Bory and her husband John Bory of Deer Park, NY and Lee Anne Gearity Candito of Simsbury, CT, as well as her son, Richard and his wife Kelly of Woodbury, CT and her daughter-in-law Sunita Gearity of Fairfax, Va. She was predeceased by her son James of Fairfax, VA. She will be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren: John and his wife, Carolyn, Matthew, Genevieve, Ryan, Caitlyn, Sara, Lyndsay and Megan.
Enid and her family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of St. Mary's hospital-Waterbury, Ct, especially those on Xavier 3 as well as the angels of mercy in the VITAS Hospice Care unit. To all of you, your loving care of our Mother during this difficult time will never be forgotten, bless you.
