Emil E. Detlefsen, Jr., 86, of Harrison Lane died Saturday May 26, 2012 at VITAS. He was the husband for 60 years to Evelyn (Kane) Detlefsen. Mr. Detlefsen was born December 17, 1925 in Waterbury son of the late Emil E. and Hattie (Folgmann) Detlefsen, Sr.
He graduated Leavenworth High School in Waterbury and worked as a Forman for Risdon Manufacturing as a Carbide Tool and Die Maker; where he was credited as being the founder of the carbide department in the company.
He was a Staff Sargent in the Army Air Corps on a B17 bomber. He was a member of the American Legion Post 146, and had served as a Second Selectman for the Town of Bethlehem.
A longtime volunteer fireman, he served as Bethlehem's chief for 10 years.
Always an active member of his community, Mr. Detlefsen was always involved in his community's interests and projects. He enjoyed his role as announcer for the kids tractor pull at the Bethlehem Fair each year, but his biggest interest by far was being loved and surrounded by his family.
Mr. Detlefsen was a humble man with vast knowledge of the Holy Bible. He served as leader of the day of Prayer in Bethlehem, and had served as a Deacon at the Corner Stone Assembly of God Church in Oxford.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by three sons, Kurt Detlefsen of Bethlehem, Neil Detlefsen of Lakeville, Dean Detlefsen and his wife June of Bethlehem, 4 grandchildren, Lisa and her husband James Dillane of Thomaston, Michelle and her husband Brain Mohr of Gales Ferry , Amber and her husband Ken Williams of Georgia, Dean Detlefsen, Jr. of Bethlehem, and 6 great grandchildren, Taylor Detlefsen, Corbin and Pyper Dillane, Sydney Mohr, James and Alyssa Williams. He was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Ralph Detlefsen.
A private burial, with full military honors will be held in the Bethlehem cemetery. A funeral service will be held Wednesday May 30, 2012 at 6 pm at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, Main Street South. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 pm until 6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Volunteer ambulance Association, POB 401, or the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department POB 504, Bethlehem 06751 or to the Corner Stone Assembly of God Church, 656 Oxford Rd, Oxford Ct 06478.
